This is an on-going list. Updated when I think of things about myself. Trying to fill a 100 item list is hard!
1. My name is pronounced on-DRAY-uh. Even though I’ve been spelling it with an accent mark over the e for almost 10 years, many people still call me anne-dree-ah. I’ve given up on correcting most people, unless I know I’m going to have a lot of contact with them. My mom went through a phase, in her youth, of spelling her name with an accent mark too.
2. I’m allergic to cats but I’ve lived with them for most of my life. My cat, Ellie, is the only cat I’ve never had an allergic reaction to.
3. I don’t drive. Never got a license, and never want to drive. I love my no-car lifestyle.
4. I own 4 bicycles, though. I love my bicycle-centric lifestyle.
5. I’ve always made things with my hands and think it has to do with having an artist for a grandfather.
6. My grandfather died with I was 16. It’s strange how much I miss him and regret not spending more time with him, even though he was always around. As I grow older, I’m starting to see that I take a lot after him in my hobbies and desires for my life. I think we would have been great friends if he was alive now.
7. Because of my grandfather’s VW Bus, I have a big soft spot for those vehicles. Every time I see one I can’t help but smile wistfully.
8. My grandmother is one of my favorite people in the world. She and I understand each other in a different way from others in my family. I think it has a lot to do with who I’ve become and how much I am a mixture of her and my grandfather (her husband).
9. I’m the middle child.
10. I haven’t lived with my family since 2001, but stay in fairly good contact with them.
11. I used to like late nights but at some point that changed. Now I love waking up very very early, and going to sleep early. Something about early mornings, especially in the summer, and the quietness of them puts me in a great mood.
12. I feel very attune to nature and drawn to places that have lots of plants.
13. My dream place to live would be in a rural-feeling area, where I could still ride a bike everywhere and not need to drive, and be a part of a community. This place would need to be by water and have cool autumns and cold winters.
14. I don’t have a career aspiration. I’ve never really had one. I’d rather have some part time job that involves interacting with people, in order to pay the bills, but spend most of my time travelling, camping, and creating things with my hands.
15. I used to read a lot more than I do now. Part of me thinks that majoring in English as an undergrad took some of the luster of reading away from me.
16. I was 1 class short of minoring in Art History as an undergrad.
17. I have a problem with losing interest in things when I commit myself to them.
18. I think it’s related to my fear of failure.
19. I began graduate school for a Master’s in Environmental Studies (focus: Environmental Policy) in 2006. I go part time. I’m primarily interested in agriculture (real farms…not urban farming), industrial land reuse (brownfield remediation), and abandoned mine remediation. Most others in my program are interested in water and energy. That makes me feel very alone in my program.
20. I doubt I’ll ever use my Master’s degree. I’m ok with that.
21. I drink a lot of coffee but think it’s psychosomatic. If you gave me decaf instead, I bet I would still feel “the effect.”
22. I’m reducing my coffee intake to 1-2 cups a day (down from 4-5). When I get stressed or anxious I drink a lot of coffee.
23. I have bad anxiety and am a constant “worrier.”
24. I love cooking and baking and prefer to make as many things as possible from scratch. I think I would have been a great wife out on the prairie.
25. I became a vegetarian at age 12, vegan at age 20. Since then I’ve had a few periods where I would occasionally eat meat, cheese, and fish. Currently, I do not eat meat, rarely eat fish, and only eat dairy if it’s cheese or ice cream. You could say I have deep seeded issues with food politics, but I hate getting into debates over my food choices with people who are vegetarians or vegans. It’s a personal choice and I’d rather it be left alone by others.
26. I’m allergic to hazelnuts, pecans, mangoes, and ivory soap.
27. I have very vivid dreams, and usually remember them when I wake up. I still remember dreams I had when I was a young teenager.
28. I have a great memory for all things, except numbers and directions.
29. I used to be cripplingly shy. People who’ve met me in the past 4 years find that impossible to believe. I still consider myself pretty shy, but apparently everyone else thinks I’m “outgoing.”
30. I don’t like speaking in front of people, meeting new people, or being in situations where I don’t know anyone. I avoid these things when possible. When I have to participate in them, my hands shake from nervousness.
31. I cry easily…and often.
32. I was born with red hair. Over the years it’s become a reddish brownish color. It gets redder in the sun.
33. I wish my eyes were greener.
34. I like music and listen to it quite often. I’ve tried being musical and have played the piano, saxaphone, cello, and violin. I quit them all.
35. I think I have a great singing voice when I sing along to things by myself. I’m actually tone deaf, though.
36.
